Christmas Art

Today I have a little paint project to share with you. We've had a Kirkland's charger with three vases atop, just like the one below, in our home office for years.

Well a few months ago, a stray toy knocked two of the vases over, chipping one and destroying the other. The arrangement didn't look quite right with just two vases (which are not waterproof so using them as actual vases was out of the question) so I tossed those and decided to paint a nativity scene on the charger.

First I found an image that I liked, as well as one that was easy to cut out, on Google. Then I trimmed the edges and taped it onto the charger.

Next I painted the negative space white for a nice contrast and for durability, sprayed on a think coat of protectant. Here is the finished piece:

Tip: If this is something you'd like to try, I recommend lightly sanding the charger. I didn't have any issues with the paint adhering to the charger but I did notice that removing the tape striped a finish that I didn't realize was there. Luckily, the high gloss protectant took care of that.
Just for fun, here's a little workup I did using Pic Collage. You can really see the difference the protectant made.
And here's how it looks in my entryway:

Hope you enjoy the holiday season however you celebrate, surrounded with lots of love.

The Nutcracker 2016

Seven year-old Blinky has been taking ballet since before she was three. This year, she had the opportunity to dance in the Nutcracker as a little angel in the Angel Scene. It was incredibly graceful dance and little Blinky danced beautifully! We could not have been more proud!

The girls had nine performances over  three days, with rehearsals all week. There were a few long nights, but not once did I hear a complaint from any of them. The Moms worked together to ensure the girls were well fed and entertained backstage along with the requisite costume repairs, make-up touch ups, hair emergencies, you name it.

On the penultimate day of performances, I presented Blinky with a box set of Nutcracker ornaments. She was overjoyed! Of course she received flowers from the DH and Stinky, but I wanted her to have a forever memento. These fit the bill perfectly!

Words cannot adequately express how proud I am of my little angel!

Quotes of the Week {from the past few weeks}

While playing laser tag with the kids:

Me: "Come on guys, it's my turn to shoot!"

Stinky: "Now you sound like one of us."

On grooming:

Me: Son, the say will come when I'll have to chase you out of the bathroom."

Stinky: "Yeah, but you'll be too old to catch me."

Stinky: "I don't understand why I have to shower, comb my hair and brush my teeth everyday. Which dummy invented that?"

Elf of the Shelf 2016

In creepy Jack Nicholson voice...Odette's back!!! And I have a feeling she'll be a little less sweet this year. [Insert wicked laugh here.]
